YPP Network Description

The MacArthur Research Network on Youth and Participatory Politics (YPP) formed out of recognition that youth are critical to the future of democracy and that the digital age is introducing technological changes that are impacting how youth develop into informed, engaged, and effective actors.

Activists and Participatory Politics
  • Project Description

The Activists and Participatory Politics project seeks to provide support and highlight the effective practices of activist groups that promote participatory politics and youth civic and political engagement. This project emerges from research carried out by YPP Network projects during phase I of the project and the growing understanding of the ways participatory culture and participatory politics provide important connections for activists who otherwise might work in isolation. These connections create contexts with opportunities to build bridges and connections that enhance their work. The Activist and Participatory Politics project will host face-to-face gatherings of activists in order to begin dialogue and collaboration, and will develop that collaboration via online participatory media.
