Elyse Eidman-Aadahl is Executive Director of the National Writing Project (NWP), a network of literacy-focused professional learning communities and research centers located at nearly 200 universities across all 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Based at the University of California, Berkeley, the NWP engages educators K-university and across the curriculum in projects aimed at expanding the potential for youth to learn and use literacy for powerful social outcomes in a digital age. Eidman-Aadahl is the co-founder of “Digital Is,” funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s Digital Media and Learning Initiative. This project aims to support teachers across grades and subject areas, as they go about the task of re-envisioning their teaching to develop young writers as readers, writers, creators, and citizens in an age of new media and networked digital environments. She is a co-author of Because Digital Writing Matters (Jossey-Bass, 2010) and Writing for Change (Jossey-Bass, 2008).
